The Sarjeant Gallery Te Whare o Rehua Whanganui is one of New Zealand's leading fine art institutions, known for its large and nationally-significant collections, its iconic building and its diverse exhibitions programme. Exciting times are ahead for the Sarjeant and we are seeking a well-experienced person to fill this role.

Curator of Collections

We are searching for a highly motivated person with strong and proven experience in collection management as well as an ability to write about the items we own. The Sarjeant has one of the largest collections of artworks and objects outside of the four main centres covering roughly four hundred years of art history and the entire swathe of NZ art history.

The Gallery is currently operating at its temporary premises at Sarjeant on the Quay and, now that the redevelopment fundraising is nearing completion, we are planning for our return to Queens Park. In addition to collection management business as usual we are looking for someone who will plan, implement and manage the return relocation of the collection. Ideally you will have considerable experience in: artwork packing and handling, collection documentation, storage systems, budgeting, working and negotiating with suppliers, supervising others, as well as a good understanding of Tikanga Maori.

This will be a very challenging and rewarding role and a rare occasion to have close contact with one of New Zealand's leading collections at a pivotal moment in the Gallery's history.

If you meet these criteria and are keen to advance your career within a professional team, then enquiries in regards to this role can be made to Greg Anderson, Director:

The Whanganui District Council is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer.
