Policy Planner & Senior Policy Planner
Exciting opportunities exist for strategic-thinking Planners to join our Planning Policy team. Two Policy Planner positions have become available, both of which will play a key role in shaping the future of Whanganui.
The Whanganui district is undergoing rapid population growth, development and change. The Planning Policy team is delivering an exciting and diverse range of strategic planning projects to support this growth and change, ensuring the district's planning framework continues to promote and secure sustainable development. Planning Policy works collaboratively with the Resource Consents team, providing an integrated ‘one team' approach to planning in the district.
The Planning Policy team is dynamic and results-focussed, comprising two Policy Planners, a Heritage Advisor, Regeneration Project Manager, Policy Administration and Research Officer and GIS Lead. Upcoming areas of strategic focus include sustainable growth planning, industrial and commercial planning framework reviews, development of the city's first heritage strategy, and implementing environmental policy such as outstanding natural landscapes. District Plan effectiveness monitoring, District Plan NPS alignment and e-plan implementation are additional aims for the Policy team in 2020.
We are looking for strategic thinkers at two levels, a Planner with some experience looking to broaden their strategic planning skillset, and a Senior Planner with more extensive experience to act as the team's principal lead on all policy matters, including the District Plan review. Both roles will manage their own portfolio of strategic planning projects and will contribute to the organisation at operational, strategic and political levels.
The successful candidates will have a degree in planning or a resource management related discipline and be eligible for membership of the New Zealand Planning Institute.
Our salary packages are competitive, with premium packages on offer for the right candidates. Combine this with living in one of New Zealand's most affordable cities you will secure an unrivalled lifestyle.
