Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery - Gallery Assistant (Casual)

Built in 1919, the Sarjeant Gallery is one of New Zealand's oldest purpose-built galleries.

In November 2024 Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery reopened its doors in its newly refurbished and extended facility at Pukenamu. With a stunning building, a unique collection of over 8000 items including artworks and archival material and a dynamic exhibition program it's easy to understand why the gallery is recognised as one of the best regional galleries in New Zealand.

About the role:

We are currently looking to increase our pool of on-call casual staff. This would include covering annual leave, events held in the evening, weekend shifts and short notice to cover sick leave, plus assisting with small projects within the wider gallery team.

We are looking for a person who is passionate about customer service and art to be part of a small but busy team. As a member of the front of house staff you will be responsible for providing a warm welcome and excellent retail customer service while promoting Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery. If you are friendly, thrive on variety and enjoy a challenge, we would love to hear from you.

  • Organised
  • Takes pride in their work
  • Able to work unsupervised and as part of a team
  • Articulate and able to effectively communicate with colleagues and stakeholders
  • A strong interest in art and design
  • Have prior retail, merchandising and/or administration experience would be advantageous
