Whether its water quality, pool plant, routine maintenance or the small details that make a big difference, our Maintenance Technician plays an important role in keeping our facilities safe, reliable and ready for the community every day.

We're looking for a practical, hands-on person who enjoys solving problems, getting stuck in and learning how things work.

About the Role

This is a varied, hands-on maintenance role across the Splash Centre and Whanganui East Pool, working in busy aquatic environments where reliability, safety and attention to detail matter.

You'll be responsible for undertaking routine and preventative maintenance, while also playing an important role in monitoring and maintaining water quality and supporting the safe operation of aquatic plant and equipment.

You don't need to come from an aquatic background. If you have experience in a relevant trade or maintenance environment and have the technical aptitude and curiosity to learn, we'll help you develop the specialist knowledge required for aquatic operations.

What You'll Be Doing

• Carrying out routine and preventative maintenance across aquatic facilities, plant and equipment.
• Monitoring and maintaining water quality to support safe, compliant pool operations.
• Identifying and resolving routine maintenance issues, escalating more complex issues when required.
• Operating and maintaining pumps, filtration, dosing and other aquatic plant and equipment.
• Supporting safe chemical handling, water treatment and maintenance practices.
• Using digital systems to record maintenance and support effective day-to-day operations.
• Maintaining high standards of safety, reliability and presentation across our facilities.
• Working collaboratively with the Aquatics team, contractors and other Council teams.
• Supporting the wider operation of the Aquatic Centre as required.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone who is practical, curious and reliable, with the ability to learn and take ownership of their work.

• Two years' relevant trade or maintenance experience
• Demonstrated technical aptitude, practical skills and the ability to identify and resolve routine issues.
• Ability to use computer systems and digital tools to support effective day-to-day operations
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to build and maintain relationships and networks with a diverse range of stakeholders

The following qualifications or training are valuable, but training can be provided for the right person:

• New Zealand Certificate in Aquatic Treatment Systems (L4).
• Confined Space and Gas Monitoring trained.
• Certified Handler.
• Chemical Handler.

Hours of Work

This is a permanent, full time 40-hour-per-week role and includes rostered weekend work.
